David Shepherd - my history of working with Christian books

Christian bookshops and Torch Trust

My very first job was working as the manger of The Christian Bookshop in Rugby. Then after long careers in both Financial Services and Business Training, I returned to managing a Christian Bookshop Market - this time in Market Harborough Leicestershire

Then for several years I was the Resources Manager at Torch Trust for The Blind, also in Market Harborough. In that role, I built strong relationships with a large number of people working with UK Christian publishers, and had the opportunity to meet many of them during Christian Together Retreats at The Hayes Centre, Swanwick.

My job was to liaise with publishers to procure digital copies of popular books that Torch could transcribe into sight-loss-friendly formats such as braille, large print and audio. I ensured that all of the books were transcribed correctly and the resulting files made production ready.

Sometimes, I was roped in at Torch for an audio interview or to read article for some of Torch’s own publications… and that’s when I got a taste for working with audio.

Passionate about Christian Audiobooks

Why audiobooks?

Although things are changing, only a relatively small number of Christian audiobooks are recorded in the UK.

However, at the same time, the number of people generally reading audiobooks is going through the roof.

I passionately want to see more Christian audiobooks made available not just for people with sight loss but also everyone who prefers to listen to eBooks.

So, whether you want to record and produce your book yourself or want me to do it for you, please get in touch for a free, no-obligation chat and we can discuss how I can help you.
